Spanish Android users subjected to a massive Trojan attack

Reportedly Panda Security, a brand-new Trojan for Android was spread through advertising messages on Facebook. The virus penetrates the device and signs up the user to paid SMS-services, and then deletes all the messages received from fraudulent number.

A group of researchers from Panda Security discovered a massive attack aimed at Android devices exclusively. Cybercriminals published a bunch of advertising messages and promoted various mainstream applications. When a user logged into Facebook account using an Android-powered device, he could see the ad blocks promoting these applications. In accordance with Panda security, the offers were typically associated with WhatsApp service, recently acquired by Mark Zuckerberg, and a range of popular applications and games.

Banking Trojan Caphaw spread via YouTube

Another digital plague came like a thunderbolt last week; called into existence via YouTube advertising network the Caphaw Trojan nourishes interest to banking systems. The malicious spawn has been discovered by Bromium Labs experts. According to them, YouTube In-Stream ads redirect users to web-sites owned by cybercriminals that contain sets of Styx exploits.

These pages exploit vulnerabilities that on the victim’s side through launching various attacks, such as drive-by-download, thus infecting computers with Caphaw. After installation, the malware identified the Java version and launched an appropriate exploit.
