Microsoft starts iPad buyback to boost Surface tablets sales

American multinational corporation Microsoft has launched a US marketing offer that will let people exchange 'gently used' iPads for Microsoft products such as Surface tablets.
According to the BBC, the company is offering at least a 200-dollar token to go towards products such as the Surface RT and the Surface Pro.
Microsoft has launched a promotional trade-in aimed at persuading iPad owners that its struggling Surface tablet is a worthy rival to the Apple version. Anyone with a "gently used" iPad 2, 3, or 4 can come into one of the firm's physical retail stores and upgrade their Apple product for a shiny new RT or Pro model--not one of the cheaper devices on the market--and get a $200 gift card in return.
Before you surrender old iPads to give Surface a chance, know that the trade-in scheme will run until October 27th, which gives you time to see Microsoft's next attempt.
The offer runs in selected Microsoft stores in North America, until October 27. It seems to be the firm's latest attempt to woo consumers with its products--last month, it announced a partnership with Best Buy, which would see 600 Microsoft mini-stores appearing in Best Buy locations all over the U.S.
Valid September 5, 2013 until October 27, 2013. Available in select Microsoft retail stores in US (including Puerto Rico) and Canada; Not valid online. Offer only valid for the exchange of listed iPad products, no exceptions. To be eligible for trade-in, device should include power cord, if available, and device cannot be password protected. Microsoft Store gift-card value will be equal to trade-in value, and is subject to Microsoft’s discretion and manager approval. All trade-ins are final. Recycle for Rewards program provided by CExchange, LLC. and other terms and conditions may apply. See store associate for details. Not valid on prior orders or purchases; cannot be transferred or otherwise redeemed for cash. Limit 1 per customer.

MS is now playing hard ball, I am a hardcore Apple user but if the MS tablets come with USB ports (even just one port) then I'm in for the deal. For how long have we been asking for usb ports on iPad and Apple's just not listening - instead they are trying to force pple to use iCloud

- Full-size USB 2.0;
- microSDXC card slot;

One of the smarter design decisions Microsoft made with the Surface RT and Windows RT was to include a standard USB port and drivers that are compatible with pretty much everything (it’s compatible with USB printers, keyboards, and mice).

Since its launch in October, Surface has been eschewed by both retail and corporate consumers, with shipments of Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets adding up to a total of only 900,000 units in the first quarter of this year, according to IDC. In comparison, Apple's iPad sold 19.5 million units in the same period.
